Unlike nature’s seasons, the fashion cycle follows an unintelligible logic. After his Epilogue 2021 collection, Alessandro Michele announced his plan to do away with sartorial seasons, and rework the traditional calendar to slow its pace. With two seasonless shows per year, Gucci has introduced its own almanac of sorts, charting a new mode of approaching seasonal dress.

In an editorial by Vanina Sorrenti, shot on location in Mallorca, and styled by Julie Ragolia, orange light bends, smooth and malleable as amber, welcoming the death of autumn and winter, the inevitable rebirth of spring.

Under the shade of Mallorca’s Cypress trees, chickens peck at their feed. The breeze rocks the hammock in the afternoon warmth, the bright white summer dimming to make room for October rain, then winter storms. The almond trees have been harvested, the end of August bringing baskets of a creamy white bounty, hulled in a woody shell. November marked the plucking of oranges, first the Navelina, then the Navel. Here, the land gives forth with unrestrained generosity.
