Stora Skuggan PERFUMES

Stora Skuggan—Swedish for “the big shadow”—handcrafts unisex perfumes with mystical backstories. The Stockholm-based studio began as a DIY initiative founded by five multidisciplinary artists while still in design school. After years of olfactory experimentation, the niche parfumerie officially launched in 2015. Dubbed “scented stories,” each perfume triples as a conceptual project, a wearable artwork, and an aesthetic object. The diverse backgrounds of the collective’s members result in unique combinations of culture, theory, and mysticism: Freudian analysis and Indian folklore meet references to Harry Potter in the perfumes’ idiosyncratic origin stories. Modernist Scandinavian design characterizes the label’s packaging, with minimalist line drawings, sleek glass bottles, and oversized stoneware orb caps. Merging conceptual fascinations with quirky mystique, Stora Skuggan translates its collaborative design practice into a distinctive line of creative fragrances.
