Le Kilt is above all a family affair: the ready-to-wear label was founded in 2014 by designer Samantha McCoach and her grandmother, a former quilt maker with over forty years experience on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Familial craftsmanship and sustainability form the bedrock of the brand’s identity, drawing from McCoach’s Scottish heritage to introduce modern audiences to traditional kilt-making practices. The line features panelled and pleated wool kilts that combine eclectic tartans in unexpected pairings. Vivid blues, reds, and yellows punctuate conventional plaids crafted in Scottish woollen mills across the UK, while heavy leather buckles lend functionality to the brand’s provocative directional aesthetic. Marrying a punkish DIY spirit with a loyalty to legacy, Le Kilt creates contemporary heirlooms that are fit for the future.
