Ole Mathiesen

Danish watch manufacturer Ole Mathiesen boasts over a century of horological excellence. The brand’s story begins in 1845 when Carl Matthæi and J.P. Christensen opened a small watchmaking workshop in the heart of Copenhagen. In 1919, Axel O. Mathiesen acquired the firm and produced the family’s first wristwatch in collaboration with Swiss manufacturers. Roughly fifty years later, his son Ole took over the family business and launched his first collection of eponymic designs. Currently helmed by third-generation watchmaker Christian Mathiesen, the brand continues to uphold the family’s reputation for superlative watch design. Each collection commemorates a different period in the brand’s history: the Royal Marine—with its slim stainless steel case and clean, uncluttered dial—recalls 1962 models, while the 1919 Heritage—with its austere elegance—harkens back to the family's earliest timepieces. Since its nineteenth-century debut, Ole Mathiesen has continued to fortify its legacy of quality craftsmanship through honest, straightforward design.
