Paula Canovas Del Vas SERVEWARE
For London-based Spanish designer Paula Canovas del Vas, accidents are an integral part of design. The Central Saint Martins graduate draws on the Japanese aesthetic concept of wabi-sabi—a view centered around the acceptance of imperfection—in the development of her whimsical tableware. This approach, rich with playful chance and ingenuity, is well exhibited in her eponymous collection. Homeware in muted pearlescent shades draws attention to the rich textural and sculptural forms. Ceramic platters and trays come in ubiquitous shapes that offer endless possibilities, while drinkware silhouettes are completely reinvented with joyful delight. Paula Canovas del Vas channels rather than controls the chaos around her, accepting its imperfections to produce an offbeat array of home ceramics.
