Herno COATS

Since its inception in 1948, Italian heritage label Herno’s classic tailoring expertise and technical innovations have been a pioneering force in the luxury outerwear landscape. Giuseppe Marenzi founded Herno with his wife Alessandra Diana in the Northern town Lesa, Italy, naming the label in homage to the beauty and longevity of the surrounding Erno river. Marenzi channeled his military experience into coat making and introduced castor oil as a waterproofing agent, spurring the label’s history of dedicated research into material and manufacturing innovation to the simple goal of providing functional, weather-resistant coats with timeless Italian style. With ethical and environmental responsibility as a core tenet, Herno’s production remains grounded in an eco-sustainable approach through continuous evolution. The pioneering label went on to produce top-of-the-line outerwear for fashion powerhouses, including Armani, Prada, Jil Sander, and Louis Vuitton, predating the ubiquitous of designer collaborations in the contemporary age. In 2000, Marenzi’s son Claudio took over the family business, offering a modernized interpretation of outerwear while maintaining the label’s signature undercurrents of elegance. Herno’s range of styles was diversified to include more casual variations that inventively blended luxe cashmere with high-performing technical materials.
