The protean nature of design is perfectly embodied in the eclecticism of Chinese designer Sun Yun, the accomplished architect, designer, and priest. While at university, Sun studied stage design and was dismayed by the temporary nature of the sets he created. Drawn to permanence and longevity, Yun became a respected architect before pivoting to the world of fashion with the launch of his menswear label, Cornerstone, in 2007. Though architecture and fashion may seem at odds, Cornerstone proves them closely intertwined, with structural looks emblematic of the values Yun holds dear: permanence, stability, and history. Softly tailored tops and shirts offer reprieve from overly stiff collars and cuffs while maintaining an air of contemporary refinement. Coats and jackets boast tough textured textiles, suggestive of workwear, while trousers convey casual elegance.
