New York City-based label Winnie New York reshapes Savile Row-style tailoring into easeful women’s ready-to-wear. Nigerian-born and raised in London, creative director Idris Balogun cut his teeth working for Burberry, Tom Ford, and on the legendary Savile Row where he landed his first apprenticeship at age fourteen. Winnie’s first showing in Paris 2020 displayed the techniques one would expect from someone of Balogun’s pedigree, but with a nonchalant fluidity. By no means trend-driven, elegant silhouettes and deft craftsmanship take center stage in neutral color palettes. Long dresses with wrap constructions are inspired by the Yoruba masquerades in Ijebu Ode, a fond memory Balogun has of his childhood. Winnie’s ethos is simple: to expertly craft quality clothing for effortless everyday wear.
