Tokyo-based label mastermind JAPAN was founded in 1997 by designer Masaaki Homma following his years working for avant-garde virtuoso Yohji Yamamoto. Quickly attaining a celebrity following in North America, the punk-infused brand began gaining more traction on its native soil by 2001, seeing wider recognition and distribution across Japan. High-profile collaborations and the introduction of the brand’s iconic skull logo have since solidified mastermind JAPAN as a globally recognized platform.
