Merging her knowledge of fashion with her background in architecture, Berlin-based designer Amélie Riech launched her line of sleek sculptural jewelry in 2008 under the moniker Uncommon Matters. Riech’s designs quickly found a following in not only the fashion sphere, but in the art world at large, with the brand’s “wearable architecture” being regularly exhibited at contemporary galleries worldwide. Adopting a minimalist approach to design, Riech constructs elegant pieces with ultramodern forms. Tubular rings and earrings in amplified shapes provide structural adornment while sinuous coiled cuffs and necklaces accentuate the natural curves of the body. Combining fine and novel materials such as Thuringian porcelain, hand-sanded glass, and high-tech ceramics, Riech fluidly intermixes traditional craftsmanship with futuristic design to create fresh and innovative products.
