Steeped in nostalgia and a rich personal history, Los Angeles-based knitwear label giu giu—pronounced joo-joo—draws its moniker from founder Giuliana Leila Raggiani’s childhood nickname. Continuing the illustrious legacy of her grandmother Palmira Giglia, designer of Settebello’s luxe Vaccaro turtleneck, Raggiani cut her teeth at Calvin Klein and studied Knitwear at Central Saint Martins before founding giu giu in 2013. The label’s signature piece, the Nonna turtleneck, is a contemporary reproduction of Giglia’s original design, featuring a ribbed texture and form-fitting silhouette. Both a child of the 90’s and a former ballerina, Raggiani infuses inspirations from the era’s soft minimalism and pastel dancewear into her offering of women’s knitwear, including ribbed mini dresses, tube tops, fitted midi skirts, and leotards. Crafted from soft natural fabrics and designed for complete ease-of-wear, giu giu knitwear embodies a mindful lifestyle driven by simplicity and freedom, with no limitation to age or gender.
