Strong dualities often unlock powerful juxtapositions. Wielding a unified dichotomy of artistic influences, Greek designer Eftychia Karamolegkou creates cannily empowering womenswear. Karamolegkou describes her aesthetic as “couture for tomboys,” and Eftychia takes inspiration from men's tailoring circa the early 1900s and 1990s. Favoring masculine-leaning silhouettes, Karamolegkou constructs pieces that reflect a new and refreshingly unadorned femininity. Shortly before launching her namesake house in 2018, the Central Saint Martins alumnus previewed a graduate collection that strove to remove gender signifiers altogether: this appreciation for tasteful androgyny reappears in Eftychia's nuanced collections. Loose-fitting and understated blazers, shirts and trousers suggest appealing simplicity, but, at a closer glance, reveal thoughtful design details. Eftychia’s collision of raw femininity and classic men’s tailoring proves that the blending of opposites can be doubly powerful.
