Reviving the heavy chains of early 2000s hip-hop, Brooklyn-based unisex jewelry label Martine Ali is making big waves in both the fashion and music industries. Fresh out of Visual Arts studies at Fordham University, Chicago-born designer Martine Ali was commissioned to create pieces for the runway during her internship at DKNY. Since then, Ali has honed her design skills and sense of experimentation to develop the brand that has gone on to craft jewelry for some of the biggest names in modern music. Inspired by her upbringing in the late 1990s, her childhood and adolescence spent watching TV programming like MTV’s TRL and listening to the era’s hip-hop and R&B artists, Martine Ali specializes in women’s chain jewelry of all kinds: ball-chain dog tag necklaces, curb chain bracelets featuring toggle clips, oval link Gunnar chain belts, and classic Cuban-link wallet chains and choker necklaces. Ali doesn’t design for any one specific wearer, but rather for those with a tendency to develop a singular personal style, those searching for a signature piece.
