Los Angeles-based Chemist Creations functions as an auxiliary line for experimental athletic wear label C2H4. Founder and creative director Yixi Chen continues to expand on the laboratory imagery from which C2H4’s polyethylene-referencing name is derived, but the elements at play throughout Chemist Creations are decidedly less complex. Garment-dyed for a weathered look and cast almost exclusively in monochrome shades of off-black, grey, and white, the hoodies, lounge pants, and headwear that pillar Chemist Creations revive the minimalism that underpinned early concepts of athleisure. Energizing a low-fuss take on technical gear is the prevalence of a glowing electric blue logo, heavily featured in the brand’s collaboration with Asics. This unnatural hue evokes the contents of a fizzing lab beaker, ultimately unifying Chemist Creation’s exploration of the role experimentation can play in everyday wearability.
