Nicholas Daley TOPSSS
Designer Nicholas Daley explores British heritage from the stand-point of the contemporary era, infusing his dual-ethnic Scottish-Jamaican roots into his work. A graduate of Central Saint Martins and recipient of the 2018/19 International Woolmark Prize London Semi-Final Award, Daley launched his eponymous menswear label in 2015 with the intention of igniting a conversation around identity and multiculturalism in Britain. Manufactured in the U.K., the London-based brand’s unique offering speaks to the past as much as it does to the present: workwear-inspired silhouettes meet bespoke tailoring and find form in patchworked trousers, traditional Scottish checks, tie-dyed knitwear, and graphic t-shirts. With music playing a defining role throughout the label’s oeuvre, each collection explores the symbiotic relationship between fashion, jazz, reggae, post-punk, and dub. Fashion and music are inextricably linked as both are mutually embedded in culture and a shared sensory experience. By giving visual expression to the auditory, Daley builds a label around diversity, inclusion, and community, while creating space for a multicultural British identity to unfold.
